Fitness Facility Overview

The Wheaton Park District’s Parks Plus Fitness Center serves the recreational, social, wellness, and fitness needs of both youth and adults. Explore all the great things that the Parks Plus Fitness Center has to offer!

Cardiovascular and resistance equipment

We have an extensive variety of strength and functional training equipment to meet the diverse needs of our members. Our cardio equipment includes a selection of treadmills, exercise bikes, recumbent bikes, elliptical trainers and more.

Full line of free weights

We have a large selection of free weight equipment for all your strength training needs. Our full line of free weights includes something for the heavy lifter as well as the strength exercise such as iron dumbbells, kettlebells, weight plates, Weight Bars, Medicine Balls etc..

Three-Lane Indoor Running Track

A three-lane indoor running and walking track is available for member use. Twelve (12) laps on the center lane equals one mile. The shock-absorbing rubber surface and banked turns provide a safe running surface.

Outdoor Swimming Pool

Parks Plus Fitness Center Annual members may participate in Early Bird Swim from 7 to 7:45 AM, weather permitting. This program usually begins the first week of June and runs through the first week of August.

Whirlpool and Sauna

Whirlpools and saunas are located in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms for member use only.

Clean Locker Rooms & Towel Service

Take a load off when you come to Parks Plus Fitness Center. The locker rooms are located on the main level. Locker rentals for overnight use $104/year full length and $52/year half length (women’s only). Hand towels are distributed to each member for use in the fitness center. Body towels are also available for the showers, whirlpool and sauna.

Child care is available to patrons working out at Parks Plus Fitness Center, using the Community Center track or participating in a Wheaton Park District program.

Personal Fitness Orientation

During your first visit to Parks Plus Fitness Center, you are entitled to and encouraged to sign up for a free orientation with a Parks Plus Fitness Center Personal Trainer. During this orientation you’ll discuss your health and fitness goals, exercise history/experience, and you’ll be shown how to use the exercise equipment.

Parks Plus Fitness Center Manager

-B.S. Physical Education/Fitness Management from DePaul University
-Certified Race Director
-ACE Certified Personal Trainer, TRX Instructor
-Certified CPR, First Aid, AED Instructor

Michelle oversees all operations and day-to-day functions of the fitness center, group fitness, personal training and child care.

Michelle has been with PPFC since 2006 as a certified personal trainer, was promoted to assistant manager in 2015, and manager in 2017. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2000. Michelle was a Division I athlete in college and a multiple sport varsity athlete in high school. She is a Wheaton resident and mother of 4. In her spare time Michelle volunteers and completes races and events such as: GoRuck Challenge, Super Spartan, Soldier Field 10-Miler, and Ragner Series/200-mile relay. Of course you’ll also see her at the Wheaton Park District Race Series (Fun Run, Run for the Animals, Night Run, & Reindeer Run).

Jim Brown Personal Trainer

Jim Brown

Certified Personal Trainer

Jim is certified by World Instructors Training School. He competes in Masters (age group) Track and Field and runs the sprint races. Jim currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo and has 20 years of participating and teaching martial arts. He incorporates his wide range of fitness experience to give his clients the best training session.

Certified Personal Trainer | Step, Cardio, Strength Instructor

Christina’s passion for fitness grew from hobby to career in 2001 when she started a group fitness class at her corporate office. The program grew from 3 to 12 classes in ten years. Now she teaches Step, Spin, Boxing, Muscle Conditioning, Interval Training, Core Conditioning and Yoga. She is certified through Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA)

Suzy is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and NETA Group Fitness Instructor. She graduated in 2014 from Georgia College & State University with a degree in Health Education. After graduation, Suzy worked in the corporate fitness world where she fell in love with group and 1-on-1 training. Suzy loves to run and has completed 20+half marathons, 4 marathons, an ultra-marathon, and a Half Ironman.

Certified Personal Trainer | Youth Sports & Insanity® Live! Instructor

Tom started his personal fitness journey years ago as an overweight man preparing for a wedding. He went from 300+ pounds to the Insanity, Sports Performance, and Certified Trainer he is today. Tom knows both sides of the coin and wants to help others overcome their barriers to help reach their goals. Tom is in the strength & conditioning training team for Midwest FC High School travel soccer teams. Tom is certified by International Sports Sciences Association.

Certified Personal Trainer

Tom is certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and he specializes in general fitness training. He is a retired teacher who decided to go back into marathon training and is a seasoned weightlifter that incorporates his extensive knowledge as a lifelong learner into his training sessions. Tom believes that it’s important to incorporate a regular exercise routine into your life and that this is one of the best decisions you can make.

Grace Schwanda has her personal trainer Level Two certificate from W.I.T.S (World Instructors Training Schools). She is actively exercising and working on her own fitness level at this ‘slightly older’ time of life. Grace is the soccer referee trainer for the Wheaton Park District Athletics Department and she is on the Strength and Conditioning Training Team for the Midwest FC High School travel soccer teams. She has been a Physical Education methods teacher at the collegiate level, as well as a music educator in schools, college and churches. Grace is looking at life with new eyes and saying, “why not me and why not now!”

Maddalena is a certified personal trainer through WITS. She also is a certified TRX & Silver Sneakers instructor. Maddalena has completed specialized training through Northwestern Medicine physical therapists to facilitate our Exercising with Parkinson’s classes. She loves to learn about different client needs and creating plans for them to keep moving!

As a loving mother of two young boys Kristina recognizes sometimes there aren’t enough hours in the day. Her specialty is high intensity interval training which will tone and strengthen the body efficiently. Kristina utilizes a variety of functional exercises to enhance your fitness for everyday life. Kristina is certified by the American Council on Exercise.

Kidz Kingdom Attendants

Adult
Persons age 22 and over.

Two Persons in Same Household
Persons must show proof of residency at same address.

Family
A family is defined as parents and any unmarried children ages 11 to 21 living at home. Children age 22 and over living at home, and other relatives and individuals in the same household, are not included on the family membership.

Youth
Persons age 11-21 (Youths ages 11-13 must be accompanied by an adult member age 18 or over when using the fitness center.)

Senior
Persons age 60 and over.

Resident
